This section provides “down to earth” nature-based activities that promote our spiritual and emotional well-being. It can be used to target other domains of our lives such as increasing social well-being through group participation and engaging in physical activity outdoors. Nature promotes human growth and “grounds” us back to Earth.
Other benefits of being submersed in nature include (but not limited to):
- Increase self esteem and sense of accomplishment
- Sense of gratification
- Reconnect with the heart
- De-stressing and calming
- Brings awareness to the world’s natural forces (earth, wind, soil, water, life cycles, etc)
- Deepen your connection with the Earth
- Opportunity to experience flow*
*Flow: Flow is the experience of being submersed in an activity and fully in the moment. One experiences flow when they are engaging in an activity that they enjoy.
So, I’ve claimed a lot about nature but you really have to try it out and judge nature yourself by submersing yourself in it. I’m not the only creative mind that believes in the powers of nature. Green Nature/human Nature: The Meaning of Plants in Our Lives, by Charles. A. Lewis, is a rich resource that discusses the powerful effects of plants enriching our lives.
